"Making a difference, rather than making a dime"
Two years ago I embarked on a desire to make a difference rather than making a dime. After 20 years in the technology industry, in places all over this country and around the world, I decided to change my career. I spent a year teaching part time at Hennepin Technical College and working part time at Evergreen Park Elementary as a Volunteer Coordinator. It was the best decision I ever made.
Working at Evergreen Park allowed me to see the inside of an elementary school where over 90% of the students are diverse and 90+% of the students are on free or reduced lunch. This experience was invaluable, and allowed me to see the real effects of poverty and come to the realization neither party understands what is happening in our high poverty schools. This experience played a large role in my desire to seek election to the State Senate, to bring that experience and strong belief these kids deserve better.
I now consider my career change to be complete as I have accepted a full time teaching position at Hennepin Technical College, where it is my privilege to help students complete their pursuit of a career in the technology industry. Their success is my success, I am doing everything I can to prepare them and provide them with the latest technical education I can.
